Jonathan Hickman's concept here has the distinction of being four or five somewhat cliched concepts combined in a completely novel way: Dust-punk, the a high technology grim meat hook, the four horsemen, and Westerns with a post-communist flair. Best bang for your buck and this is how comics should be read. Great illustrations, great frameworks, colors and dialogues. I'm re-reading the first volume (having already read it this morning) while waiting for the rest of the volumes I just purchased to arrive. Although this asymmetric feature is well recognized, its origin remains poorly understood. I’m a collector by nature, and I enjoy having a series (or twelve) to follow. East of West Volume 1: The Promise But, based on review, I went in expecting more. I love this series, I hear there will be 3 of these volumes (Year One/Two/Three).
