Usual characters, including the superb Flintwitch (Alun Armstrong, Panks (Eddie Marsan) and Rigaud (Andy Serkis). You'll find every moment reverting and each character one you remember, especially Claire Foy. Almost at once he becomes involved in the problems of his mother's seamstress Amy and of her father residing in the Marshalsea debtors' prison. I know this is one of Dickens's less well known works but I highly recommend watching this, its a complex, multi-layered and charming story full of deceit, secrets, vanity, and of course there's Little Dorrit and well she brings hope and much more. I was particularly impressed by Eddie Marsan as the tough rent-collector with a heart, the snorting Pankes, Russell Tovey as the lovelorn lock-keeper's son John Chivery, Ruth Jones as Clennam's blowsy, bloated childhood sweetheart, Flora Flinching (her transformation from the slim teenager of his memory to today's fat frump, was deftly rendered) and Flora Robson lookalike Judy Parfitt as Arthur's cold, immovable (in every sense of the word) "mother".

This gripping series by Andrew Davies brings to life Dickens's powerful story of struggle and hardship in 1820s London. Rigaud visits Mrs. Clennam's house, pretending that he's come on business.The Dorrits make their triumphant departure from the Marshalsea. Rigaud re-emerges and reveals his full set of cards to Mrs. Clennam.

I just finished the book before watching the series, and I was stunned by the subtleties that the actors managed to communicate.

Written by the renowned Andrew Davies it brings together a brilliant cast many of whom you will have seen in a host of dramas and films.

I truly can't say when I have enjoyed a series more than this. This mini-series tells the story of Amy Dorrit, who spends her days earning money for the family and looking after her proud father, who is a long term inmate of Marshalsea debtors' prison in London. Nevertheless, 4 discs with a running time of 452 minutes makes this ideal winter's entertainment. The direction was well-paced and occasionally imaginative while the acting, with a few exceptions was excellent, particularly in the crucial main roles where Claire Foy and Matthew Macfadyen in arguably the leads convey without too much sentimentality (Dickens' goodly characters frequently teeter on the edge of over-sentimental caricature) their traits of honesty, loyalty, self-sacrifice and humility. His mind is still on the pretty Pet Meagles, whom he met on his journey back to England.

One can only hope that this will be released as a Region A/1 Blu-Ray.

This BBC adaptation of Little Dorrit (2008) is charming and a great period drama.

This is something you can watch over and over again, without loosing any pleasure or joy in each scene.

This is Dickens at his best....and wait till you see Andy Serkis's performance.....he is more evil, more malignant then Gollum in Lord of The Rings....!!
