You're able to buy tickets two days in advance and beat the line once you get into the town of Hohenschwangau.

In case you do the trip by yourself, be at Neuschwanstein very very very early to avoid long waiting times.I have been there several years ago, several times... maybe someone else has more actual information but that was my experience.You could always skip all the fuss and go to Linderhof instead of Neuschwanstein.
